OM NOM NOMZ

Long night, and I'm up early. I've had some ideas about how to make this blog better, and give more to yall. I'm going to work hard on implementing these differences as best I can, so expect alot more to come.

I'll say I think I might have been trying a little too hard to make this like other's blogs. Not cool, if I do anything, I do it my way, no compromising. So if anyone think's I'm slacking, call me out. Anyways...

I'm not sure what I'm doin the rest of this weekend, so that could mean good things here. I'm not good at being lazy.

Now, I'm not a fan of Hayley Williams, but I really do enjoy this song, as well as the group. They are "Death in the Park", a Indie/Rock group comprised of Andy Jackson- long time front man for Hot Rod Circuit, Joe Ballaro- bassist of Hot Rod Circuit, along with Ronnie Gardner on guitar, and Aaron Holmes on drums.

Hot Rod Circuit was one of my favorite bands for so long, it's not wonder I love this group so much, but that's not all.
When I first heard their EP sometime last year I believe, I was immediately refreshed by their light guitars, clean vocals, and still making me want to move. Jackson definitely  hasn't lost anything lyrically or vocally since his HRC days. Admittedly the first track, "Pitifully Exposed" certainly has a sort of HRC sound to it, but I don't think there's anything wrong with it.

After a thorough listen of their entire debut album, each song has it's own unique hook and sound. This is NOT an album with 2 or 3 good songs, and the rest being "filler". I would have to rate the album a 4 out of 5...you listen for yourself!

Go and buy yourself some cheap sunglasses!

Well it's Friday, not sure what I'm gettin into tonight but I'll deff be out. I hate being bored at home. Thanks for all the support so far guys, I promise to follow/support as well! <3

For anyone else that's into post hardcore/trancecore, if you havn't already, check out We Came as Romans. They have a new song out off their upcoming 2nd full length release, called "To move on is to grow". I have to say it's kicking my ass over and over again right now, if the rest of the album is this good, these guys are going to take off!

No hope? No problem

I'm feelin better now, so I can finally sit down and focus. I want to say that I'll be using this blog not only for my rants/raving about "music", but also about my personal life. Knowing what goes on with me in the real world can help you, as readers, really get where I'm coming from.

I had someone reference the band Mushroomhead today. I immediately respond with an innate burst of laughter.
After I pulled myself together, I followed up with how they were more or less "a Slipknot replica group, but even worse." Of course, they were worse than Slipknot, and if I wanted to listen to Slipknot, I would, not Mushroomhead.

Stepping away from those groups specifically, it brings me to how success and being "formulaic" correlates in the music business, as well as how it's changed over time.

It's nothing new, being the sellout. Conforming to other's style to be more popular, accepted, successful, etc. Some of the greatest groups have been formed off a style created by someone else, and in essence, almost everyone does. This is not wrong, as that is what keeps groups defined as genres to begin with.

But where do you draw the line? Where do you go from being copycat, to ground breaking new artist of the year? What allows 1 band to fail miserably, and another to take off? I'll tell you...

You have to make it yours. You take the barebones of what makes up the genre you're in, and twist it in your own way. You have to have something unique to offer to the world, or else you will never stand out in people's minds. That's where the real questions begin.

How can I take a sound, change it in my own way, and still expect it to be liked? How can I really appeal to people?

Those are things I can't answer, not to say I don't have my own personal ideas, but those I'd consider "trade secrets." Don't think I'm going to leave you hanging now though.

It's all about balance. Finding that sweet spot in between "unique" and "what works". Alot of people fall short trying to find this balance, despite their own level of talent. I've heard alot of talented groups that never made it past a 3 track EP. Sometimes a group will take their own level of "unique" a little too far for people to accept. Just too far from the norm to mesh with the populous.

This comes with the territory, not everyone can make it in the music business. It's an ever changing jungle, but the basis of what makes it work will never change. It takes an open mind, and a good ear to even notice these repetitive traits, none the less acknowledge and manipulate in your own ways. Do you have what it takes?

Semi-fun night

Had a good night but got home feelin pretty bad, had to crash early.

Updates tomorrow!

Don't go chasing waterfalls?

Now I'm not a fan of TLC's hits from the mid/late 90's, but I am a fan of a wide array of music, spanning over the last 40 years or so. I've seen and heard it all. I have seen multiple genre's grow, and subsequently, die out almost over night.

What makes these "genres" unique enough to flourish? Why do they fail as well? What really determines "success" in a music industry that is constantly evolving?

I don't run a record studio, I'm not a producer, and I'm not secretly some big name artist, thats playing on your radio right now.

I do however, feel more than well-rounded enough to voice a solid opinion on these questions, and other topics in relation, while giving you all something at least slightly entertaining to read.

and that's the thing about opinions; they're yours.

I don't like or listen to ALOT of bands/artists, and I have no problem voicing my opinion on why they suck, why the failed, etc. I will do so in a way that is both plausible, as well as entertaining for readers.

This is just a run down of what to expect, I'll continue later tonight. Thanks all!
